Overview

In the midst of busy Silom, this hotel is part of a greater beast known as Silom Village Trade Centre, an outdoor arcade of shops and restaurants. Cosy and attractive, this is a welcoming little inn that defies the megatower mentality of the surrounding area. The last village Thai tradition old style on Silom road. Within the compound are 15 teak houses and 3 buildings, owned by Mr. Cheaw chong Pre. These houses were constructed in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1908 and converted to restaurant and Thai handicraft shop in 1981. On 7 Sep 1984 Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri SirinThorn Graciously bestowed certificate for The Conservation of Historic Building Award on the occasion of fiftieth anniversary of The association of Siamese Architects under Royal patronage.

Facilities

The friendly little lobby with Thai furnishings is a nice change from the impersonal feel of the surrounding district. An outdoor balcony links the rooms, which gives onto the outdoor courtyard and plaza below. The rooms are a little ordinary, blandly decorated with average mattresses and simple furnishings, but they have a clean, fresh feel and are very good value. Indeed their plainness will be refreshing for those tired of excessive florals and bulk hotel flourishes. Visitors generally warm to the friendly ambience of the place and its touristy but traditional plaza with teak Thai houses, seafood restaurants and handicrafts. There is some street noise from outside but in general it's peaceful. Guests can use the Silom Village Health spa which has traditional Thai massage and foot reflexology. More detail [ + ]

"Quite reasonable place"

Reasonable rates are just one of the draws at this small hotel. It's also well run, with rooms that are as neat as a pin. The king-size beds leave just enough space for a desk and a couple of chairs, but the 20 new rooms added in 2005 are a little bigger and expensive. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel to avoid the ruckus on Silom Road. The staff at the reception desk is helpful and reliable at taking messages. A small restaurant serves Thai food, but many other choices are just outside your door.
